REGINA, Sask. - Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, the Saskatchewan
Female Midget AAA Hockey League and host team the Regina Rebels, announced Friday that tickets for the 2010
Esso Cup are now on sale.
The second annual National Female Midget Championship runs from April 18-24 in Regina, Sask. at the
state-of-the-art Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place. Six teams, including the host team and five regional
champions, will face off in the week-long tournament. A five-day round robin will be followed by two
semifinals, the winners of which will compete against each other in the nationally-televised gold medal
game.
Passes to the full event cost $40 for adults, while day passes are $8 during the round robin and $10
during the playoffs. Seniors and students between 11 and 18 years old pay $5 during the round robin and $7
during the playoffs. Children 10 years old and younger are admitted for free. Team promotions are also
available.
Ticket sales kicked off Friday during a special ceremony prior to the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA
Hockey League game between the Rebels and Melville Prairie Fire.
The five teams that will compete alongside the Rebels at the 2010 Esso Cup will represent Pacific (British
Columbia and Alberta), West (Saskatchewan and Manitoba), Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic (New Brunswick,
Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The gold medal game will be broadcast on
TSN/RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, on Saturday, April 24. Please check your local listings
for broadcast times. All other games, including both semifinals and the bronze medal game, will be available
online through hockeycanada.fasthockey.com.
“The 2010 Esso Cup will showcase the top female hockey talent from across the country,” says Julie Healy,
director of female hockey for Hockey Canada. “Manitoba’s Westman Wildcats may have claimed the inaugural
championship last year, but the gold is up for grabs again and it will be exciting to watch which team comes
out on top this year.”
